Devon Anderson, head coach of Clarendon College, said this is just the beginning for his programme after claiming the Ben Francis KO Cup title by defeating fierce rivals Cornwall College 2-1 in the final over the weekend.

Nayar Anderson opened the scoring in the 10th minute for Clarendon with Nicholy Francis scoring the winning goal in the 72nd.

Mekhi Foster's equalising strike in the 15th minute proved a consolation effort at full-time.

After the game, Anderson was an elated head coach as he guided the school to their fifth hold on the Ben Francis Cup and his first honour in schoolboy football.

Anderson had come close a few times before in his coaching career, leading Holy Trinity High to their first Manning Cup semifinals in 2016, and leading Hydel High to the Manning Cup final in 2023, and the semifinals in 2024.

"It means a great deal. I've been knocking on the door for a oh so long time and it finally opened now," he said.

"I'm trying to find a word to explain their performance; it was gutsy, never-say-die mentality, go hard or go home and we planned this year that we weren't going home empty-handed."

MORE TO COME

With his first taste of success, Anderson said this is only the beginning of what he hopes will be a successful stint at Clarendon College.

He joined the team at the start of the season to replace to outgoing Lenworth 'Teacher' Hyde who had brought much success to the school.

Now at the helm at a school that has become accustomed to success, Anderson said the Ben Francis triumph is only the first in what he hopes will be more success for his programme.

"I am a very insatiable person. I haven't bullied anything here yet; my dream hasn't been fulfilled," Anderson said.

"This is just the beginning of many more things to come. This is just a manifestation of my hard work and that of the team.

"To be honest, this is just another feather in the cap, a bit more gas in the tank in order for me to push harder and work harder."
