Life behind bars for man who hid gun in ceiling
A St Andrew man who tried to hide a gun and ammunition in the ceiling of his Red Hills home more than two years ago has been sentenced to life in prison.
Iyan Guzmore, of Cedar Valley in Red Hills, was sentenced on Friday, February 13, in the Gun Court for unauthorised possession of ammunition. He must serve 15 years before becoming eligible for parole.
He was also handed a 19-year-and-nine-month sentence for possession of a prohibited weapon, with 10 years required before parole. The sentences are to run concurrently.
Police reports say Guzmore was arrested and charged in 2023 after a St Andrew North team conducted an operation in the Cyprus Hall area of Red Hills on November 14. During the search of his premises, officers reportedly found a .38 revolver and two .38 cartridges hidden in the ceiling.
Guzmore was charged with breaches of the Firearms Act, and the sentences reflect the seriousness of the offences under Jamaica's gun laws.
