Molotov cocktails suspected in early-morning fire at Portmore restaurant
Byfield's Restaurant, a well-known cook shop in 3 East Greater Portmore, St Catherine, was gutted by fire early this morning in what owners suspect was a deliberate arson attack.
The owners said that they received a phone call from residents shortly after 1:00 a.m., alerting them that the establishment was ablaze.
When they arrived from their home elsewhere in St Catherine, the building was already fully engulfed in flames.
No injuries were reported. However, the owners say they discovered broken bottles at the scene, which they believe were part of molotov cocktails used to start the fire.
The cause of the blaze has not been officially determined, but the matter has been reported to the police for investigation.
The business was insured.
